Feeling Safe Inside

You may experience tenderness at the implant site. This is normal. Your incision should remain completely closed without gaps. If you experience any redness, increased swelling or drainage from the incision—including bleeding, yellow or green drainage—contact your doctor immediately. Do not wait for your next appointment.

Your activities may be restricted for a period following the procedure. Your doctor will tell you when you can resume your normal activities.

Attend Regular Appointments

You will probably have appointments with your doctor in the days and weeks following your procedure. These appointments are very important as they allow your doctor to be sure your incision is healing and that your CRT-P or CRT-D is working properly. Sometimes, minor adjustments to the device are required. These adjustments are done painlessly in the doctor’s office using a programmer.

After your incision has healed and your doctor has determined that your device is working properly, you will still have regular follow-up visits. Your doctor will advise you on how often you need to be evaluated.

For CRT-D patients, your doctor may ask that your device be checked after you receive a shock.
