You may experience tenderness at the implant site. However, you should report any redness, soreness or tenderness where the device was placed. If you are at home when you notice the redness or soreness, contact your doctor immediately. Do not wait for your next appointment.
Your activities will be restricted for a period following the procedure. Your doctor will tell you when you can resume your normal activities.
Attend Regular Appointments
You will probably have several appointments with your doctor in the days and weeks following your procedure. These appointments are vey important as they allow your doctor to be sure your incision is healing and that your pacemaker or ICD is working properly. Sometimes, minor adjustments to the device are required. These adjustments are done painlessly in the doctor’s office using a programmer.
After your incision has healed and your doctor has determined that your device is working properly, you will still have regular follow-up visits. Your doctor will advise you on how often you need to be evaluated.
For ICD patients, your doctor may need to see you once or twice a year or after you have received a shock.
